Randy Briggs has spent his entire career in the automotive field. His experience spans dealerships, independent repair shops, community colleges, and national training companies. As Research and Development Center Manager for CARQUEST Technical Institute in Raleigh, NC, he shares this experience with CTI students through our network of over 60 trainers.
Sean has over 30 years’ experience in the automotive industry. A mechanical engineer by trade he embarked on his sales and marketing career with the UK’s largest parts distribution company during which time he earn a degree in marketing from the Charted Institute of Marketing. In 1991 Sean joined Nissan at its London headquarters, where he created, launched and managed Nissan’s Certified Collision Repair Program.
In 1995 Sean moved to the USA where he established Carter & Carter International and managed its development and growth into a leading automotive consulting firm. In 2004 Sean joined the Fix Auto organization where he was jointly responsibly for the spinoff of CynCast an automotive claims and collision repair IT Company.
In 2009 Sean established SCG Management Consulting LLC. Since establishing SCG Sean has consulted at the highest level with all sectors of the automotive claims industry and has a keen understanding of the needs of insurers, repairers, OEMs, rental companies, technology providers and a wide range of industry supply chain vendors. Sean is respected in the industry as a strategic visionary and a leader in growing businesses and markets from concept to implementation. In the past 36 months Sean has become a regular speaker at industry conferences on the subject of telematics and the potential impact this will have on the claims and collision market.
Sean lives in Chicago with his wife and four children.
Celebrating his 46th year in the automotive service industry, Chris Chesney has held every primary role from a Master Technician, Service Advisor, Shop Owner, Technical and Management Educator, owner of a successful independent training organization (Diagnostic Technician Education Consultants) to his current role as the leader of the most successful automotive training organization in the industry with Carquest Technical Institute (CTI). As a self-taught technician, Chesney is fully aware of the challenges that today’s complex vehicles present for those entering the automotive service industry. These technologies present great opportunity for those entering the industry but also pose a tremendous challenge because of the limited education opportunities available.
With vehicles becoming some of the most complex machines on the planet and recognizing the shortage of talent the industry faces along with the limited education model, Chesney has committed his work to help guide the industry toward solutions to these issues. He currently serves on the board of directors for the National Automotive Service Task Force and helps lead their Road to Great Technicians project that is focused on creating a new education curriculum framework for the industry. He also is a board member of the Automotive Maintenance and Repair Association which set standards for vehicle inspections and customer communications and is the Past Chair and active member of the ASE Training Managers Council which is focused on growing and supporting the education of in service automotive technicians. As well Chesney is a charter member of the TechForce Foundation Future Tech Success Cabinet, an organization focused on improving the image of the industry while also influencing the parents and influencers of peripheral students who are the future of the automotive service industry.
Over the last 20 years, Chesney has lead the Carquest Technical Institute and is now working to partner with the parent organizations Worldpac Training Institute creating the largest aftermarket technical, sales and management training organization in the world. The focus of these groups is to provide quality continuing education to the in-service technicians across North America. Currently these groups see over 30,000 individual students in the classroom every year and serve online training content to a similar number of additional students. This consolidated team features over 110 highly skilled technician instructors and a management team of 18. All content is created by a group of skilled developers at the CTI Research & Development Center in Raleigh, NC or is licensed from the Original Equipment Manufacturer. The experience and skill of these teams is second to none in the industry.
John Eck has over 28 years of automotive aftermarket experience with General Motors and has held numerous field, marketing and management positions in several business segments in the USA, Canada and South Africa. He joined the Wholesale Business Channel in May 2014 and serves as the Collision Manager for the Wholesale Dealer Channel for General Motors Customer Care and Aftersales. John is responsible for managing the collision business including GM Dealer Wholesale parts strategies, programs and industry relationships. Additionally, John serves on the I-CAR Board of Director’s Strategic Policy Committee, is the current President and Chairman of the Board for the OEM Roundtable Board of Directors, an active participant on the CIC Governance Committee and the Collision Industry Quality System (CIQS) committee.
Kirk has been an automotive technician in College Station since 1994. Holds ASE CMAT / L1, L3 and I-CAR certifications. Manager of a local automotive repair facility since 2000 and is the owner of Gladney Automotive Solutions LLC, a mobile business specializing in on-site diagnostics, module programming and ADAS calibrations.
Rob Johnston is a 25 year veteran of the Ford Motor Company, a husband and father of 4 children. He lives in Novi, Michigan with wife Belinda and children Diego (19), Antonio (16), Brianna (14), and Marco (11).
Born and raised in Indiana, Rob attended University at the Indiana State University studying Industrial, Mechanical, and Automotive Technology. Rob’s extensive Ford background includes positions in Detroit MI, Twin Cities Region in Minneapolis MN, Ford Marketing and Sales Headquarters in Dearborn MI, Orlando Region, Southeast Market Area, and the Atlanta Region. Most recently, Rob was Sales and Service Regional Manager for Ford’s Sub-Saharan Africa Region located in Pretoria, South Africa. Currently, he is responsible for the global marketing activity of Ford Customer Service Divisions Collision Parts business and is located in Dearborn, Michigan.
Rob is a highly motivated, detail minded marketing and sales professional with a history of achieving results through strong leadership and interpersonal skills. He is a proven negotiator with experiences in human resources, recruiting, sales and marketing, training, parts and service, and consulting in business environments.
In addition to his professional leadership accomplishments, Rob has also held many volunteer roles and leadership positions in organizations such as Salute to Education, Boy Scouts of America, Experimental Aircraft Association, Carver County Schools Mentorship Program, Forsyth County Youth Recreational Sports League, Ford Flying Club, and Ford Global Month of Caring.
In his free time, Rob enjoys spending time with his family, and being outdoors hiking, backpacking, fishing, motorcycling, and flying.
Dawn Mortimer is the assistant vice president of IoT/Telematics Product Management at Verisk Insurance Solutions/ISO. Before that, Dawn was with Guidewire Software as the Market Strategy Director for data and analytics; she was Innovation Director at American Family Insurance. Dawn’s background of insurance for the past 30 years has been to serve the industry in many capacities, such as strategy, marketing, I/S, claims, agency, and product lines. She is responsible for leading the Personal Auto Product Development around IoT/Telematics with suppliers and insurance companies to develop new products, services, and business opportunities.
Dawn has her master’s degree in business administration. She is also a Project Management Professional with the Project Management Institute, is a certified Usability Specialist with Human Factors International, has a certification in Alliance Management from the Association of Strategic Alliance Professionals, and has her Fraud Claim Law Associate designation from American Educational Institute (AEI). Dawn’s experience with project management, technology, usability, and market development is critical to working with partners to leverage the Internet of Things for the future.
At AirPro, Olsen ensures that its collision repair customers receive the latest OEM compliant diagnostics and safety system calibrations. With over 40 years of hands on experience, Olsen specializes in the diagnosis and repair of mechanical and electronic/computerized components as they relate to vehicle safety systems. He currently maintains ASE Master Technician, Advanced Engine Performance, Body Electrical/Mechanical Certifications, and a multitude of OE Certifications in the automotive technologies field. Olsen has received many awards and accolades for his contributions in Emerging Technologies, and he volunteers his time and expertise to various organizations including: Collision Industry Conference, Equipment and Tool Institute, Florida State College Jacksonville, I-CAR, National Automotive Service Task Force, Society of Collision Repair Specialists and Society of Service Technicians.
Bob Redding is the President of The Redding Firm, a legislative consulting and advocacy firm located on Capitol Hill. A native of Edison, Georgia, Bob has spent his professional life in Washington, D.C. He opened his firm in 1993 after working twelve years on Capitol Hill — six years as a Chief of Staff in the U.S. House of Representatives and six years as an Executive Assistant and Chief of Staff in the U.S. Senate. He worked with Members of Congress serving on the Senate Appropriations, Energy and Natural Resources, and Budget Committees and the House Small Business Committee. Bob has served as national and state finance chair for a number of Members of the U.S. House and Senate.
Bob has spent twenty-five years as the leading legislative and regulatory advocate of the independent automotive repair industry in Washington, D.C. He represents the Automotive Service Association and speaks on behalf of the industry to the U.S. Congress and Executive branches. He has spent a tremendous amount of time educating members of the Association and the industry at large about issues affecting the daily lives of automotive repairers. Bob’s knowledge in this field has resulted in his being recognized on numerous occasions by the automotive aftermarket. His expertise has led to presidential appointments to Federal Advisory Committees at the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, the U.S. Department of Justice, U.S. Department of Labor and the U.S. Department of Transportation.
Bob is a graduate of Mercer University in Macon, Georgia and the National Law Center at George Washington University in Washington, D.C. He is married to the former Laura Fallin of Moultrie, Georgia, and they have three children. They reside in Alexandria, Virginia.
Jake Rodenroth is the Director of Client Services at Collision Diagnostic Services, headquartered in Plano, TX.
Jake hails from Jacksonville, FL where he started working on cars with his father. At eighteen he entered the automotive business as a technician for Mercedes Benz. After working on the mechanical side, Jake spent the next 13 years with Osteen’s Auto Body working in various roles. Learning the business from the ground up, he helped the company become a Jaguar and Land Rover structural aluminum certified facility in 2004.
Jake recently came over ABRA Auto Body & Glass, where he served on ABRA’s integration team and helped add over 100 repair centers to the company’s portfolio in less than two years. He also helped build and support a technical hotline for all ABRA locations nationally.
At CDS, Jake is responsible for product integration and training in the collision industry for the company’s revolutionary diagnostic interface, the asTech™. He has worked with companies like ICAR and Verifacts to create awareness and build curriculum about diagnostics in the collision space. He also works with groups like SCRS and Collision Advice to help educate the industry on constantly changing vehicle technology.
Donny is the Executive Officer for the National Automotive Service Task Force. His responsibilities include assisting automotive technicians and locksmiths with information necessary to repair vehicles. NASTF helps to resolve information gaps by acting as a conduit between the repairer and the OE in service information, tool information, education and NASTF’s marquee program, the Secure Data Release Model which allows independent service professionals to apply and received credentials to access key and immobilizer codes from NASTF’s OE partners.
He is the immediate past chairman of the Automotive Service Association. The largest association in the US representing independent repair shop owners.
Donny is widely sought as a speaker on the topic of Advanced Vehicle Technologies as they relate to the consumer and service repair environments. He has presented at such industry events as AAPEX, AASA Vision, TU Auto, The ASA/Auto Alliance Technology and Telematics Forum, Silicon Valley Innovation & Entrepreneurship Forum and the NAPA EXPO.
As the Co-Owner of Seyfer Automotive Inc. in Wheat Ridge, Colorado, founded in 1961. He has well over three decades of automotive service experience as a technician, manager and service consultant – expertise he shares in various industry roles.
Donny is an ASE Master / L1 advanced diagnostic technician and C1 service consultant, and has been a participant writing test questions and working on passing score studies for ASE.
He is a contributing editor to Babcox publications, and a has contributed to Autobody Repair News (ABRN), Motor Age, Aftermarket Business World and AutoInc. Magazine. He also co-authored an article on vehicle information for The New York Times and The Wall Street Journal.
As a technical and management instructor Donny has provided training for NAPA Autotech, Automotive Service Association, The Auto Alliance, WorldPac, MACSVISION, ATE, NACE, CARS and others.
Donny also is active as a telematics/connected car initiatives leader; member of the Aftermarket Telematics Task Force; a member of ASE Education Foundation board of directors and the Automotive Management Institute board of directors where he holds an Advanced Automotive Manager Accreditation.
David Zuby is executive vice president and chief research officer for the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. Working out of the Vehicle Research Center (VRC), he oversees and coordinates research by the VRC, the Institute research department in Arlington and the Highway Loss Data Institute.
Mr. Zuby is the author of numerous research papers published by the Institute on topics such as the biomechanics of injury, pedestrian protection, crashworthiness and crash investigation.
Prior to joining the Institute as a research engineer in 1993, Mr. Zuby worked on research projects for the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration at Transportation Research Center in Ohio. He holds a bachelor’s degree from Northwestern University in Illinois.
